Rudolf van den Berg's notes: A remake of an intriguing Swiss thriller "Es Geschah am hellichten Tag" (1958). I felt attracted by its sublime plot and the possibility it gave me to glimpse unspeakable evil: the mind of a child murderer, brilliantly played by the late Simon Cadell. Recently Sean Penn remade it again (starring Jack Nicholson). I envy his The Pledge for being more subtle than my version, though my movie may be more thrilling...
